Banska Bystrica Marathon weekend

Past weekend I experienced something that I still cannot digest completely.
After full year of preparations we organized international marathon race in my hometown with special worldwide-unique category Barefoot halfmarathon – only for barefoot runners.
WE DID IT!

I must admit I badly wanted to participate as a runner, but at the end it turned out to remain the unfinished task for next season.

As organizer I learned also following:
1. everything is possible, if you understand what’s your target and focus on it
2. what your people don’t manage, you have to manage yourself (and probably vice versa)
3. the better the course shaped, the easier channelled the energy of joy
4. If you organize the event for runners, then the runners are the centre of everything
5. preparing a marathon you simply have to cut away everything that isn’t marathon
6. you need to have another dream ready before reaching the first one to avoid “the emptiness of completing”

So, big thanx once again to all those who joined us along this way and contributed with effort, discipline and passion!
Noe we know that we are more ready for next season ;)

Slow down to improve

This post was inspired by communication we had recently together with Mat Hudson – befriended swimming coach living in Turkey.
We touched the topic of  movement cultivation through the low-speed practice.

At one point, Mat wrote:
“And once we break away from the futile monolithic pursuit of speed, whole new horizons of skill and satisfaction open up. Yes, I agree, that slow, carefully placed movements test our skill as importantly as fast, precise ones. ”

That’s it! I’m gonna print out a T-shirt with slogan on my chest: “Attention: FUTILE MONOLITHIC PURSUIT OF SPEED!”

It’s not only about trading adrenalin for endorphin, it’s about the overall concept of improvement.
Once we’d follow the “path of speed”, we’d face the wall very soon. Then, we shall slow down again since this gives us opportunity to cutivate the fundamental aspects of kinetic intelligence from completely different perspective.
All we need is to open the mind. It allows us to be more complex in everything we do.

In earlier posts I wrote, that expressing ourselves(mind in matter) through movement is the simpliest way how to purify relationship with our physical reality. This path of improvement through focused practice allows us to become higher selfs each time we enter the “Challenge zone”!
Yeah, another t-shirt inspiration: “Become your Higher Self – enter the Challenge Zone!”

Following this, the speed is only one parameter – not the target. And it is highly questionable if it could be any measure of improvement.
On the other pole lays the challenge of improvement in slow-mo.

I believe my heart will go on

Today, my inborn anomaly of aortic valve was definitely confirmed. It is called bicuspid aortic valve.

Now I have to follow my own recommendations about respecting ones own body even more precisely.

However, major adjustments of my practicing routines shall be performed since my achievable targets have been varied.

I’ve got to thank to my unique heart anyway – for allowing me to play competitively basketball for more than 10 years in my youth, for giving me opportunity to complete several marathon distances and dozen of halfmarathon or more, for having chance to be able to become swimming and barefoot running coach through fruitful cognitive experience, for letting me walk on the path of Mastery I’ve chosen…

… Moreover, I want to continue more aligned, more mindful and more respectful now. With another lesson learned and even stronger inspiration to explore timeless aspects of fulfilled life through practicing with mind in/through body.

Take your time consciously.

Align with surface

Last Saturday we ran the preview of our Marathon Banska Bystrica course.

21k on asphalt of various quality inspired me to think about the surface and it’s relation to training.

If you are preparing yourself for a race, practice on corresponding surface.
If you are not preparing for any race, practice on variety of surfaces.

But always respect relationship between your feet and the ground, listen and align, because in case of fight with surface you won’t win.
